i'm wondering if there's anyway kind of mail.app status (e.g. unread mail alert, etc) in menu bar in upper right hand corner of desktop (ie. clock). work in multiple 'spaces' lot, , it's bit of pain have keep alt-commanding or swiping other space, etc, see if have unread mail. if there little icon notify me of unread mail there nifty. points being able click on bring me instantly mail.app wherever is.   you must keep dock hidden, since mail icon in dock shows unread count. use growl same purpose, included growlmail plugin. instead of menubar notification, small popup in top right corner of screen, preview of message. fades away after few seconds, doesn't in way, alerts me new messages. edit: can click on go directly message, btw, since wanted. keep dock showing, though, if miss message reason still have alert me new messages. jw   ...

i have tried can think of , hasn't helped. have 2010 imac 8 gb ram. running os x 10.7.1 , did installation on previous snow leopard installation. had existing boot camp partition under sl , on windows side running win 7. have no issues on windows side. when open system preferences , click on startup disk there grey "circular" icon spins. stop , click on bootcamp , boot windows. icon keeps spinning , beach ball , causes: 1 - startup disk app hang 2 - dock become unresponsive 3 - command-tab stop showing me open apps. need power off normal. have repaired permissions. ran verify disk , got error used external drive (big mistake lost use of drive other functions) , created recovery drive. ran lion recovery , said repaired disk successfully. however, still having issues system preferences/startup disk. have suggestions on can do? mac newbie , @ total loss. tia mark   ...
