Opening Startup Disk hangs my system

i have tried can think of , hasn't helped.
have 2010 imac 8 gb ram.
running os x 10.7.1 , did installation on previous snow leopard installation.
had existing boot camp partition under sl , on windows side running win 7. have no issues on windows side.
when open system preferences , click on startup disk there grey "circular" icon spins. stop , click on bootcamp , boot windows. icon keeps spinning , beach ball , causes:

1 - startup disk app hang
2 - dock become unresponsive
3 - command-tab stop showing me open apps.

need power off normal.

have repaired permissions. ran verify disk , got error used external drive (big mistake lost use of drive other functions) , created recovery drive. ran lion recovery , said repaired disk successfully. however, still having issues system preferences/startup disk.

have suggestions on can do?

mac newbie , @ total loss.

open console.app , see logs it's doing when hangs.

Permissions Problem?

hello. unable log on computer. took mac store , said had problem permissions. reset computer's permissions , able log onto computer. however, since dock resets day had permissions problem. example, had various cs5 programs on dock. when upgraded cs5.5, replaced cs5 shortcuts cs5.5 counterparts. however, when restarted computer, cs5 icons still there. also, whenever restart computer, browser history resets whatever on day encountered permissions problem. can not save bookmarks. also, files required type in password whenever try moving or deleting file. there other problems wanted see if knows problem have before adding more problems. thank   Forums Macs macOS macOS iPhone Mac OS & System Software iPad Apple Watch Notebooks iTunes Apple ID iCloud Desktop Comput...

iPhone won't sync with iTunes
