Macbook hard drive space inaccurate

hello.

made account forum site because of issue going through. have 2006 macbook hard drive of 160gb.

problem "get info" of macintosh hd indicates there 75gb of space left, whereas if preview macintosh hd says 32gb of space left. widget called istat nano indicates 29gb of free space.

have tried repairing permissions , repairing disk through disk utility.

repairing permissions absolutely not fix problem. wish people stop spreading superstition repairing permissions should every issue. hurt machine? no, wastes lot of time doing that's not going fix anything.

being said, check out diskinventory x. doesn't ask root access, there's possibility still won't find what's taking hd space. if so, there's way run root.
