hardware:
2006 black macbook1,1 w/2ghz cd & oe 80gb hd
2006 15" mbp1,1 w/same 2ghz cd & 160gb hd mbp5,5
both running 10.6.8
after unsuccessfully trying uninstall sophos av (yes, know better now) on both macs using "remove sophos" tool , subsequently cleanapp, noticed mbp moving slowly, though not showing higher cpu usage (beachballing, unable open apps, etc.). based on tried smc reset , when attempting restart, stopped @ boot logo spinning gears. thought may have done wrong on smc reset. tried resetting pram, booting safemode (got progress bar, no boot after that), , booting verbose/sum , running fsck -fy disk repairs (says repairs made no boot). hd still recognized , able boot targetdiskmode , access data on drive, can't boot.
later on, working on black macbook1,1 , noticed things running (system prefs window not come up, etc.) (apparently foolishly) rebooted, greeted same apple logo boot screen never-ending spinning gear. i've let both go on hour , neither has booted osx. i've tried same tricks try blackbook boot, plus put in osx disk , ran disk utilities verify/repair permissions , verify/repair disk, still no avail.
i'm guessing there system file somewhere has been corrupted, i'm not versed enough know how/where in situation.
i'm planning on salvaging data both, maybe trying techtools or drivegenius repair disk when connected tdm if can , failing that, trying archive & install of osx see if can them boot...
sidenote: able uninstall sophos on mbp5,5 running uninstall tool , searching related files , deleting them.
ideas?
in advance
update:
pulled data off needed , tried few disk utilities try repair black macbook, no avail erased , reinstalled osx. seems working fine far, damn pain reinstall apps. serves me right backing mpb5,5 guess, new 2tb hd gets here, i'll no longer have "not enough space" excuse. going flash , reinstall osx on 15" mpb tonight , them both up.
