Stripe and Mirror on the same two drives-Opinions Please?

i partioning 2 drives in macpro. top partition striped raid os , bottom partition mirror raid majority of data. seems work quite well, interested in hearing if there pontetial difficulties or issues have not forseen. perhaps maybe conflict when there data being moved on stripe , mirror @ same time? want set on partners machine , need sure business survive optimism.

have plenty of redundant backup. purpose here speed system have data available use external clone backup should 1 of drives fail. hence killing striped volume. not worried data loss. question revolves around whether there might data corruption or premature wear on hdd's or whether mirror might degrade performance of stripe make unattractive.

do not have room more internal drives @ point internal backup/mirror. @ point have redundant backup systems. familiar fact mirrors not make backup. sure make instant recall easy single drive failure.

 

sharing multiple raid configurations on same members has following compromises associated it:
  1. performance degradation when used simultaneously (one servo moves heads, go mad moving access next data request/write in queue).
  2. additional wear = reduced lifespan of disks (you'll see failures more frequently, particularly on consumer grade disks).
  3. failure of array affects of them (in case, data on stripe set gone, , mirror degraded loss of single member).
as better solution specific needs, more information needed (i.e performance, capacity, capacity growth rate, , redundancy requirements).

resulting solutions between simple esata based solution, proper hardware raid system.

Permissions Problem?

iPhone won't sync with iTunes
