Lack of a DVD drive option is terrible. Agree?

the point of minimalism make things simpler, not eliminate fundamental , necessary features dvd drive. point reduce things bare minimum, not go below minimum.

when original imac removed floppy drive, panicked, still had cd drive in it. @ point in time, few people ever used floppies anymore, anyway.

in case of removal of dvd mac mini, it's different because cds , dvds still commonly used on daily basis people. when buy software comes on dvd. lot of software asks installation dvd inserted verify ownership (such digital performer or reason, friend purchased mac mini in order use, because not afford more expensive mac).

dvds far cheapest , easiest way backup large sets of data or save them in format can sent in mail. many people not have ability cheaply transmit 4gb or 8gb files 1 via other means. places scan film or burn memory cards disk provide results on dvd.

it's wrong of apple inflict upon forcing people buy computer without dvd. friend wanted buy mac because our band records using digital performer, on mac. needs run windows due work. had $800, chose mac mini because option apple offers if have less $800.

friend given no option buy mac no dvd drive, , not because apple couldn't afford put dvd drive in computer, because apple wants inflict vision of future on rest of living in present. apple wants force use online software, music, , movie distribution because apple makes more money when that. apple removes dvd drive option, terrible thing users cannot afford imac or macbook pro. terrible!

"just buy external dvd drive," might say.

there no way launch reason or digital performer on mac mini without external dvd drive. trying install windows 7 on boot camp has resulted in forcing purchase of usb stick , external dvd drive, , resulted in reformatting of hard drive due bug in boot camp assistant 4.0.1 detail in thread on apple's discussions site. have lost important data (not much, since of backed up, still, incredibly inconvenient, , have been less fortunate).

in thread posted links many other posts people having heck of time getting windows install, since forces use external usb volume reformats , uses create weird windows 7 install volume iso disk image must provide. apple provides no instructions on how obtain iso image , proves heck of complex task.

saddened direction apple taking. worst part that thread fifth or sixth bug report i've had write lion in less 1 day of using it. under strong impression lion far worst mac system release ever, , have been through them going system 4 on 512ke.

feel many mac users defensive negative criticism regarding mac initial response thread inevitably is, "you wrong," "you must doing wrong," "there must wrong mac," "lion perfect," etc. sad fact tons of problems exist , long users keep blindly waving flag apple not correct course.

far have yet find 1 single redeeming feature in lion user want, coming snow leopard. meanwhile have seen bug after bug, along several worthless modifications existing features broke them. none of new features i've seen kind of "upgrade;" gimping of existing features or entire removal of them. addition of gestures no excuse point-upgrade. "full-screen" apps have existed since apple ii. encryption features cool how many people use that?

have heard many people have had same experience , sick of it. hoping bad stories i'd heard lion wrong, have found out it's worse have possibly imagined. wonder how apple intends fix this?

it annoying, however, apple trying move away optical media altogether (not selling in stores anymore). offer mba superdrive add on, , while expensive, option there nonetheless. still use mine on occasion rip cd or play dvd or game, , prefer keep it, external isn't big of deal if computer doesn't move. obnoxious macbook since move around , have limited usb ports, leave mini on desk , it's got plenty of ports.
