Are SSD Failures common?

now ssds standard, wonder if failure rates of hard drives lower before? in other words, sense of security ssds have no mechanical parts, hd crash unlikely, false sense of security or real?

i build , service pc's , mac's living.

have installed thirty or ssd's in last couple years.

have had 2 of them have problems. 1 own runcore 128gb ssd put in previous revb mba, , other desktop model ocz 128gb model put in customer's pc. in both cases, appeared controller error on ssd. ceased function , no longer showed on systems available or bootable drive.

have not noticed data or file system issues on ssd have installed.

father-in-law has had failure on western digital 128gb ssd got cheap on newegg , on second ocz revodrive x2 pcie model 100gb ssd. again, appear controller/ssd-system-board issues.

there failures. however, have installed several hundred rotational drives on years , there have been many, many different kinds of failures them well.

so, basically, no tech perfect. however, ssd's fastest things out there, can't hurt every-day types of shock (banging around in cases , packs) , can't succumb typical kinds of rotational drive issues.

own desktops , laptops - mac , pc - have upgraded or ordered them ssd's , never go back. use couple big rotational drives back-up , storage of video , audio.

2 cents.
