Time for another ethernet adaptor?

hey everyone,

have late 2006 macbook that's having problems stating connected via ethernet. doesn't matter os running weather it's original 10.4, 10.5, 10.6 or 10.7 or windows. issue whenever transfer large amounts of data on network or heavy internet browsing adaptor stops working. not renew it's ip address , unable work until restart. have tried adjusting mtu, manually configuring adaptor, tried multiple routers , heck of multiple cables. if restart adaptor @ command line still unable renew ip or connect when configured static ip addresses. hate using wifi (never have problems it.) think adaptor going bad? have better results usb ethernet adaptor?

in advance.
