hello,
run 09 imac starting bit slow during tasks.
i'm going reinstall lion , add ram speed things little until can afford new ivy bridge imac next year.
need buy new external current 1 small, old , slow.
thinking moving media new external drive.
right way of doing things:
1. copy media folder on external drive.
2. create time machine backup excluding media.
3. re install lion
4. use migration assistant bring applications/documents
5. point itunes etc folder on external
can change pictures/movies/music folder in finder point relevant folders on external or have click on external every time?
or should save myself hassle , keep media on local drive , use external solely up?
i've been collecting music years , annoyed if went pete tong new external.
suppose copy media onto old external safe.
cheers
ps have lion dmg saved can create disk image , burn dvd? rather re installing sl??
i suggest reinstalling lion doing "restore" in disk utility onto usb stick of @ least 8gb. not need reinstall snow leopard.
in honesty wait 10.7.2 (which should out in matter of days!) attempt clean problems, maybe run few cache clearing tools (either onyx or ccleaner (this still beta not best yet!)).
backing itunes folder, iphoto / aperture library (and photobooth if must) okay simple dragging folders music , pictures folder respectively. better off doing full time machine backup , running migration assistant settings (if not feel comfortable manually backing stuff up)
should consider purchasing itunes match , taking icloud if have music.. it'll worth every penny entire library in cloud safe , sound!
