iMac 4,1 needs new HD, suggestions?

i trying install sl onto imac kept spitting out disc after rebooting. has 1.83 ghz intel core duo, 1.5 gb ram , plenty of space on hard drive. several tricks , attempts later, brought :apple: store , hard drive failing. wanted $217 500gb replacement, it's way out of warranty i'm pretty sure should replacement , put in myself.

spend less $100, hard drive should get? 500 gb fine able hook , put install disc in , go? don't want have spend lot of time on this...

Permissions Problem?

hello. unable log on computer. took mac store , said had problem permissions. reset computer's permissions , able log onto computer. however, since dock resets day had permissions problem. example, had various cs5 programs on dock. when upgraded cs5.5, replaced cs5 shortcuts cs5.5 counterparts. however, when restarted computer, cs5 icons still there. also, whenever restart computer, browser history resets whatever on day encountered permissions problem. can not save bookmarks. also, files required type in password whenever try moving or deleting file. there other problems wanted see if knows problem have before adding more problems. thank   Forums Macs macOS macOS iPhone Mac OS & System Software iPad Apple Watch Notebooks iTunes Apple ID iCloud Desktop Comput...

iPhone won't sync with iTunes
