Stuck with a stolen iPhone. Should I contact the original owner?

long story short. bought iphone off craigslist. came home, put sim in , worked. kinda surprised when saw phone contact list not erased before sold me. had tons of contacts. found out music, photo, video - none of them erased. phone not reset factory settings. felt phone stolen one. has warranty 5 more months. apple store id in phone had valid email address. did little sleuthing.

searched facebook email linked apple store id. found fb account linked email. person's profile/wall/friends open. browsed through posts. there was. in june, person complained stealing iphone , asking them return phone. said had contacts in phone , didn't have backup. talked 2 more weeks , said bought phone lost contacts.

trying call person sold phone me unable reach cell. torn whether should contact original owner lives 60 miles away , let him know bought phone stranger or keep quiet. know cannot keep quiet, contact owner sure , what? going contacts , phone too, means lost money? agree split cost? student, can't expect him share cost. cannot use stolen phone. donate charity? using old phone (not iphone) now.

contact person on facebook, , contact police , give them craigslist person's number.

or creepy , make fake facebook account , send them link megaupload file upload pictures , contact info.

first 1 :)
