Icon pictures disappearing

i haven't changed of settings, when hopped on imac today icons different file types generic icons show file type , program uses them.

example of movies no longer respective movie posters , pictures no longer showed pictures icon.

idea may have caused or how can change back?
 

go folder /yourharddrive/users/yourusername/library/preferences/ , delete files: com.apple.desktop.plist & com.apple.finder.plist, reboot.

fixed me, guess answered own question.

Permissions Problem?

hello. unable log on computer. took mac store , said had problem permissions. reset computer's permissions , able log onto computer. however, since dock resets day had permissions problem. example, had various cs5 programs on dock. when upgraded cs5.5, replaced cs5 shortcuts cs5.5 counterparts. however, when restarted computer, cs5 icons still there. also, whenever restart computer, browser history resets whatever on day encountered permissions problem. can not save bookmarks. also, files required type in password whenever try moving or deleting file. there other problems wanted see if knows problem have before adding more problems. thank   Forums Macs macOS macOS iPhone Mac OS & System Software iPad Apple Watch Notebooks iTunes Apple ID iCloud Desktop Comput...

iPhone won't sync with iTunes
