operating system crashed after photo download

yesterday husband tried download photos camera mac laptop runs 10.6.7. download part of photos , stop
says rainbow wheel starting spinning , computer started making lot of clicking sounds , noise.
shut down computer pushing power switch , tried downloading photos putting chip in camera converter drive plugs usb port. same thing happened. turned off power switch , tried downloading photos imac desktop. locked iphotos , rainbow wheel started spinning.
did not mess computer messed laptop. doesn't work right. took battery out , put in.

morning first time got see what happening.
turned on computer. took long time desktop come , computer made loud sounds. tiles external drive because has never done this. shut down computer , have tried turning on twice , desktop not come up. symbol circle line through it.

go here? need technician? can start computer disk came it?

not sure files need up.
did his
documents
user library
applications bought internet. (did right? went applications folder , drug folders programs external drive)

else commonly up?
computer library? think different user library. should photos.

give appreciated.

not sure if posting in right place. went mac operating system , listed lion didn't list snow leopard (i think 10.6.7 called)

Permissions Problem?

hello. unable log on computer. took mac store , said had problem permissions. reset computer's permissions , able log onto computer. however, since dock resets day had permissions problem. example, had various cs5 programs on dock. when upgraded cs5.5, replaced cs5 shortcuts cs5.5 counterparts. however, when restarted computer, cs5 icons still there. also, whenever restart computer, browser history resets whatever on day encountered permissions problem. can not save bookmarks. also, files required type in password whenever try moving or deleting file. there other problems wanted see if knows problem have before adding more problems. thank   Forums Macs macOS macOS iPhone Mac OS & System Software iPad Apple Watch Notebooks iTunes Apple ID iCloud Desktop Comput...

iPhone won't sync with iTunes
