i planning upgrade 3x 1tb western digital caviar black drives 3tb drives. current drives 7200rpm, consider buying 5400rpm drives if suitable aperture...so here question:
store aperture library on 1tb 7200rpm drive currently. if replaced drive 5400rpm drive, how of difference able notice when working on pictures? raw images 20-30mb each, , use brushes in aperture extensively. notice sluggishness when using brushes i'm not sure if that's due hard drive or overall system.
fyi, have 2010 mac pro 3.33ghz 6 core 12gb ram, , osx , library folder reside on ssd
thanks!
my old machine 2.4ghz alum macbook 4gb ram - granted prob main bottleneck, upgraded hd in laptop 5400rpm 250gb (stock) denser 7200rpm 500gb wd black drive. saw noticeable uptick in performance. price difference wouldn't move slower drives. perhaps backup away 5400rpm, def keep files on faster disk(s). have camera produces huge raw files, , think need every resource can throw @ them. current set better, photos still take 1-2 seconds load when flipping through them.
