"Edit had no effect" FCE

i'm busily putting slideshow video client , keep running pop when trying insert or superimpose image canvas. i've never seen message until yesterday. it's not letting me make changes now. show me message.

how solve this? i've googled pop , see 1 thread site locking tracks, i've done. still pop window, "edit had no effect".

help!

btw, i'm using final cut express 4.0 on macbook pro 17" 6gb ram, 1 tb hd
 

this typically happen when video track you're trying apply superimpose operation "unpatched" on accident.

left of little "lock" icons in timeline window (on left portion of window), "v1/v1" track buttons. if these appear separated each other, click 1 of them , they'll re-patch. then, try superimpose again.

never use superimpose command because essentially, it's placing material on next track up. drag clip (or image) track want on.


locking track (by clicking little lock icon) bit different. prevent entire track being modified - in, can't move or adjust of clips.

Permissions Problem?

hello. unable log on computer. took mac store , said had problem permissions. reset computer's permissions , able log onto computer. however, since dock resets day had permissions problem. example, had various cs5 programs on dock. when upgraded cs5.5, replaced cs5 shortcuts cs5.5 counterparts. however, when restarted computer, cs5 icons still there. also, whenever restart computer, browser history resets whatever on day encountered permissions problem. can not save bookmarks. also, files required type in password whenever try moving or deleting file. there other problems wanted see if knows problem have before adding more problems. thank   Forums Macs macOS macOS iPhone Mac OS & System Software iPad Apple Watch Notebooks iTunes Apple ID iCloud Desktop Comput...

iPhone won't sync with iTunes
