iPhoto question

hey all, have external hard drive has tonnes, , tonnes of folders on it.

buried in random places , sub folders folders containing images.

might have backup old computer, folder has photos in it.

might have 1 of laptop up, images in etc, random.

so. know can file -> import in iphoto , locate these folders 1 one, fine me. once iphoto has imported them, leave originals alone?

if import folder of photos external hard drive, make copy of onto computer, , photo, copy on computer? if view in iphoto , click delete, delete copy sat on computers hard drive?

if case, mean import every photo can find. , copy iphoto bit pictures, onto dvd or backup? , have every single picture backed in 1 place?

hope makes sense, everyone!

(still getting used mac!)

only if have "copy iphoto library" option ticked in iphoto preferences. iphoto stores full resolution version in it's library.

option ticked, if edit picture, iphoto shows edited version, still keeps original, can revert @ time. if delete, deletes hard drive.

if import photo external drive option unticked, iphoto stores low res version in it's library. if want edit photo, have have drive connected mac.

copy iphoto library , use iphoto manage photos, using time machine backup. others different. 1 thing, don't tempted go iphoto folders manage pictures. can lead sorts of problems.
