Something is preventing scrensavers/sleep - how to find out what?

i have mac pro has faithfully turned off displays after 15 minutes, , required password unlock screens. computer never slept, turned off displays , required password on moving mouse or whatever.

has stopped happening , don't know why. 1 of ways noticing doing screen sharing work. connect mac pro, , years, has given me black screen "username , password" locked dialog. since last week or so, when connect vnc, desktop appears - mac pro wasn't in locked mode, despite being untouched @ home hours.

also, displays won't turn off no matter how long leave it. couldn't sleep went computer room while @ 1am - monitors on , desktop showing. wtf? there no new programs or processes running other "istat menus." else same.

- funny enough, had new macbook air here @ work, , open , running on battery @ full charge. wanted leave open drain little battery , sleep itself. come 2 hours of meetings - @ 6%, dead. never went sleep despite being set sleep @ 5 minutes. wtf? computer has istat menus newly installed.

other disabling istat , setting sleep timers 1 minute, how can test see running to:
- keep displays on
- keep screens locking
- keep computer on

there nothing know of keepalive process, there no programs running cuplrit, there background menubar items evernote, dropbox, and istat menus, none of should effect sleep/lock.

thoughts?

do have app caffeen installed?
