iPhone 5 Cases Suggest a Much Larger Device with a 4" Screen

while we've seen number of possible "iphone 4s" parts based on iphone 4 design in recent weeks, design of iphone 5 has remained unclear little concrete evidence of device's design having yet surfaced. first claim of radical redesign surfaced in april, suggesting iphone 5 adopt "teardrop" form factor tapering in thickness top bottom.

late july, purported design document iphone 5 surfaced , began make way third-party case manufacturers, apparently placed enough faith in accuracy begin making cases based on design.

based on same design document, commissioned set of renderings in attempt idea of iphone 5 might like. our designer took measurements of imaginary device using dock port standard measurement , produced document shown above. based on extrapolation, iphone 5 design should have had dimensions of 4.33" x 2.36", suggesting shorter wider design. in comparison, iphone 4 dimensions 4.5" x 2.31".

can't explain, however, actual third-party cases circulating longer , wider design document have suggested.

measurements

ordered pair of these third-party iphone 5 cases, confirming available public sale , subjecting them series of measurements.

while accurate measurements difficult achieve due open ends , overhangs on sides of case, estimate size of phone @ approximately 4.7" x 2.6". measuring expected thickness of device more challenging given uncertainty how case snaps onto along sides, device appears below .30" @ thickest , tapering approximately .065" top bottom.

following images show iphone 4 inside iphone 5 case substantial room on sides, illustrating increased size of iphone 5. thinner profile of iphone 5 compared iphone 4 visible in side shot.

second-generation ipod touch, measures in @ thickness of .33", thicker iphone 5.

screen size @ least 4"

iphone 4's 3.5" screen measures approximately 1.95" in width within total device width of 2.31", leaving approximately 0.36" margins/bezel.

assuming comparable margin on iphone 5, device's display approximately 2.24" wide, making display approximately 4" on diagonal. seems unlikely apple make margins of iphone 5 screen larger on iphone 4, if represent final case design, iphone 5's screen have @ least 4". of course, contradicts recent report digitimes claiming iphone 5's screen between 3.5"-3.7".

conclusion

unfortunately, don't have definitive answers. depending on evidence believe, there several possibilities.

if believe these cases represent final iphone 5 design, have believe iphone 5 larger iphone 4 , have @ least 4" screen. still can't reconcile data extrapolated dimensions our designer suggested smaller phone. dimensions match more closely circulating rumors of screen closer 3.5"-3.7".

apple expected reveal iphone 5 later month possible october launch.

looks nasty, it'd super unwieldy in dock, such heavy top.

more point, antenna has in bottom, odd fcc specs. can't see fitting down there speakers, dock connector , presumably battery.

raises point. how did batteries made in wedge shapes?

Permissions Problem?

hello. unable log on computer. took mac store , said had problem permissions. reset computer's permissions , able log onto computer. however, since dock resets day had permissions problem. example, had various cs5 programs on dock. when upgraded cs5.5, replaced cs5 shortcuts cs5.5 counterparts. however, when restarted computer, cs5 icons still there. also, whenever restart computer, browser history resets whatever on day encountered permissions problem. can not save bookmarks. also, files required type in password whenever try moving or deleting file. there other problems wanted see if knows problem have before adding more problems. thank   Forums Macs macOS macOS iPhone Mac OS & System Software iPad Apple Watch Notebooks iTunes Apple ID iCloud Desktop Comput...

iPhone won't sync with iTunes
