Will I retain user folders if I install OS 6 over OS 10.4?

i have os 10.4. installed on external drive.

want upgrade drive os 6. want retain user folders , other data have on drive.

if install os 6 folder , data erased or remain intact except needed install new system?

understanding there no archive , install option in os 6. , know can want keep drive

i'm assuming when refer "os 6" mean mac os x 10.6, or snow leopard.

being said if you're running tiger you'll first need make sure computer can run 10.6. first gen intel macs came tiger , can updated snow leopard. if machine powerpc you're out of luck upgrade option have 10.5.

if machine intel mac , can run 10.6, rest assured absence of "archive , install" option in snow leopard installer won't affect you. default installer upgrades , installs new system files , leaves user data intact.
