MacBook Pro says "Power Adapter" when running on Battery Power

i've got 2010 macbook pro, (13" 2.4 ghz c2d), running snow leopard, , noticed when taking unplugging , using around house, battery manubar doesn't change. still shows being plugged in, , when click on it, says: "battery if charged; battery source: power adapter"

strange, since i've been using on 4 hours unplugged... i'd love think apple figured out miniature perpetual motion generator laptops, somehow think that's not case. ideas?
