a few little queries...

cmd h, not wording on outlook. far can tell minimizes other programs.

shutdown procedure. have issue when shutting down. during cause of day, have 10 different programs running. these not “closed” in windows sense. when going home @ end of day, go force quit & shut each down, 1 @ time. check things photoshop have no images open & none of programs processing anything. however, when opening excel or word (after reboot) dialog tells me recovered unsaved doc – why that, when (presumably) saved prior closing before shut down?

defrag?....do need defrag, hard drives, if how do that.

safari…..do need delete temporary internet files? if so, how do that, maybe don’t need to.

photoshop – background on cs5, mid grey, ok, on old pc, had set black, done, windows setup itself, mac not have. possible set on mac?

can't one--maybe else. there should "hide [x]" menu item under outlook menu, though--see if it's there , if shows different shortcut it.

i've never seen dialog unless word (etc) crashed or force quit. when "force quit & shut each down", mean that's menu you're using? if you're selecting "force quit" apple menu, you're doing exact wrong thing--that's used when app frozen , won't respond user input. want either right-click/command-click/click-and-hold on application's icon in dock , select "quit" menu appears, or, alternately, click application bring front, select application main menu (it should application name, closest apple menu), , select "quit" bottom, or bring application front , hit command-q.

if you've been quitting them , still pop-up, maybe word crashing on quit--it's been known that. make sure , os date (run office , os updater check), , try repairing permissions using disk utility , see if helps. if not, might try deleting word/office prefs and/or reinstalling.

almost no. osx moderate amount of defragmentation on fly, , hfs+ isn't prone fragmentation begin with. can find hundred other threads on this, outside of edge cases involving large video files, nearly-full drives, or moving large amounts of media around, it's necessary or useful.

under normal use, don't see why you'd bother, if feel need reason, there's "empty cache" item under safari menu, , "reset safari" item above can used clean out specific caches (web page icons, example).

photoshop -> preferences -> interface -> "standard screen mode color", "full scren menus color" , "full screen color". set each gray black, or whatever custom color prefer. alternately, if don't want run ps in fullscreen mode or oversized windows, can set desktop background dark, hide other apps, , keep windows sized show image itself.
